We are delighted to announce that our alumnus John Spina (BA '72) has created an endowed award, with matching funding from the Faculty of Arts & Science and University of Toronto, to help us attract and support the very best students to our PhD program. It is a significant and generous contribution to our ongoing efforts to create funding packages that our students need to not only to survive the challenges of graduate life in Toronto, but to thrive in the rich opportunities it offers. Our gratitude to John for this boost is unbounded!
John is a long-time donor to our department, having previously established the John Spina Undergraduate Awards in Classics in 2023 for students studying Latin and Greek languages. "The decision to support was relatively easy," said John Spina. "My experience studying Classics shaped who I am in countless ways. It's rewarding to know that this fellowship will help future students pursue their own studies and research, and I hope it encourages others to invest in the next generation of scholars."

Scholarships, fellowships, and other student awards can be established through the Department of Classics, and matching funding opportunities may be available.
