Biography

David received his BA in Greek and Latin Languages and Literature with Highest Honors from Baylor University in 2023. Before graduating from Baylor, David briefly attended the University of Oxford as a Visiting Student, during which time he studied Greek and Latin literature at Balliol College and Oriel College, respectively. During his time at Baylor, David received a research grant in conjunction with Professor Jeffrey Fish to research select New Testament papyri in Oxford’s Oxyrhynchus Collection in the Bodleian Art, Archaeology, and Ancient World Library (formerly known as the Sackler Library); they are currently preparing their manuscript for publication. David has a wide variety of research interests, having written on topics ranging from Hesiodic epithets, to Attic rhetoric, to Jewish Intertestamental literature, but much of his current research centers on conceptions of deception in early Greek hexameter poetry. David wrote his undergraduate honors thesis on the uses of Mētis and Dolos in Homer and Hesiod, and he plans to expand upon these themes in his PhD research. David is fascinated by all things ancient poetry—lyric and epic being two of his favorite genres—but he has a soft spot in his heart for Cicero.

Research interests: Epic Poetry, Lyric Poetry, Allusion, Intertextuality, St. Augustine, Conceptions of Deception, Philosophy of Rhetoric, New Testament Literature
